How and why the painting studio Mākslas Pietura was created

The painting studio Mākslas Pietura was born out of a heartfelt desire to give a part of myself to others. From the desire for art to be not only my work, but my heart's calling - not only painting myself and creating exhibitions, but also teaching others to paint.

Teaching came into my life in 2012, when I started giving lessons in drawing and painting. I soon realized that it came naturally to me. I continued to work with adults, young people, and children:
– teaching regular painting classes for adults,
– working in extracurricular education and at a children's art school,
– preparing children and young people for visual arts competitions and entrance exams at art schools,
– leading painting masterclasses and creative workshops for various audiences.

Painting plenaries holds a special place in my creative journey — both for beginners and those who already have some prior knowledge. I have organized and led plein airs throughout Latvia, including the widely known project "Izglezno novadu" (Paint the Region) in Druviena, Tirza, Gulbene, Lejasciems, and Galgauska, as well as "Plenēru skoliņu iesācējiem" (Plein Air School for Beginners), which has become a favorite format for many taking their first steps in art.

These plein air events have often taken place during parish festivals, adding creative, meaningful and lasting value to the events.

Mākslas Pietura - a place to stop and create

This creative activity was given the name Mākslas Pietura a year ago - to make it easy for people to recognize these art events, masterclasses, and classes that combine creativity, peace, and professional guidance.

My main audience has always been:
✔️ beginners in painting
✔️ people with little prior knowledge
✔️ those who want to paint without fear or stress

That is why it is so easy for me to feel each person individually — to find the most suitable approach for them, so that the painting process is understandable, easy, and inspiring. A safe, cozy, and peaceful environment is created for each participant, one that they will want to return to again and again.

The journey from Gulbene to Riga

Living in Gulbene, many participants, including those from neighboring towns, have learned to independently create their own original paintings by attending painting classes, found their hobby in art, and even organized exhibitions. This gives me the greatest joy—that my goal has been achieved: to help others fulfill their dreams of learning to paint.

I have been living in Riga for four years now, and this journey continues. Here you will find:
– regular painting classes in the studio,
– creative masterclasses for adults and children,
– traveling painting masterclasses throughout Latvia,
– painting plein air in nature and at events.

Many people have found their place here, where they can:
