A painting plein air is a creative and professionally led masterclass in nature outside of indoor spaces, during which you can enjoy summer, peace and art. Under the guidance of professional painters, you will create your own painting, choosing a nature scene that you love and depicting it through your feelings and vision.

Plein air painting is suitable for both beginners with no prior knowledge and experienced participants, providing an individual approach, a peaceful atmosphere, and clear step-by-step instruction. Participants paint landscapes from life, relax in nature, and go home with their own unique painting.

Plein air painting is available in Riga and on trips throughout Latvia for companies, groups, and private events.

A little bit about the "behind the scenes" of off-site masterclasses

A traveling masterclass means not only creative togetherness, but also careful preparation—so that everything you need for your event is there. Before the masterclass, the materials are packed, and after it, they are cleaned and put back in their places. And, of course, there is also the travel range.

The plein air sessions are led by professional painters Ilvija Žeigure and Gerda Kalniņa, who themselves love to paint in nature, so they are able to make the process easy to understand, inspiring, and accessible to everyone.

The artists are known for their ability to understand each participant and find an individual approach. While painting, they explain, demonstrate, and guide step by step so that everyone can create their own painting easily, without stress or anxiety.

Painting in nature is depicting landscapes from life, not painting from photographs or images.

The master class begins with an introduction to the work process, materials, and techniques so that participants feel confident and assured. The instructor helps each participant choose a nature scene that appeals to them—a forest, meadow, body of water, flower arrangement, or other inspiring motif.

Participants receive clear and understandable instructions on:

composition,
choosing the most appropriate technique,
mixing and applying colors,
using brushstrokes.

The instructors provide individual advice, encouragement, and support to each participant throughout the painting process, regardless of their level of experience.
During the workshop, participants relax in the peace of nature, disconnect from everyday life, and give free rein to their creativity as they create their own unique paintings.

At the end of the masterclass, participants discuss their feelings, experiences and creations - mostly with a pleasant surprise at how much each person is capable of.

What do you need to participate in the plein air event?

Everything you need is provided: easels, canvases, brushes, paints, aprons. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing suitable for the weather conditions, bring a water bottle and, if necessary, a seat.

Does the plein air take place all year round?

Plein airs usually take place during the warmer months, in summer, but trips to selected locations throughout Latvia are also possible if necessary.

How long does the plein air painting process take?

Usually 4 hours, plus ~30 minutes for the introduction and conclusion, so that the session can take place without rushing and with full creative enjoyment.

Is plein air painting suitable for group events, families, or creative dates?

Yes. Plein air painting is a great opportunity for creative relaxation with friends, family, or partners, as well as for team building in companies. Each participant creates their own unique painting, but the shared process creates pleasant memories and closeness.

Does the class focus on the technical side or the creative process?

Both. Participants learn painting techniques, composition, and color toning, but at the same time are encouraged to enjoy the creative process, the peace of nature, and the present moment, without stress or competition.

Is previous experience in painting necessary?
